The World Cup is a week in, and already we’ve been privy to some fantastic football. While the goals haven’t been flowing as much as we expected, the betting opportunities have been first-rate. Bodog has all the odds.
Who would have predicted that Spain, Germany, and England would all be upset by lower ranked nations in the opening fixtures? Perhaps the biggest shock of all was last night’s 1-1 draw between reigning World Cup champions Italy and no-hopers New Zealand.
For the online betting community, these unexpected results offer plenty in the way of lucrative payout opportunities, and you can be assured there will be many more by the time the tournament comes to an end. Bodog has odds on all the action for Day 11 at the World Cup, including the must-win game between Spain and Honduras.
Portugal: 1/3
Draw: 7/2
Korea DPR: 9/1
Portugal vs. Korea DPR: Portugal have incredibly good odds to win this match, especially considering their lacklustre showing against the Ivory Coast last week. Cristiano Ronaldo, while the centrepiece of the Portuguese squad, hasn’t produced the same sort of football for his country as he has for Real Madrid, leading one to question where the goals – if any – are going to come from. Their 0-0 draw with the Ivory Coast has made this fixture a must-win for Portugal; anything less could spell the end of their World Cup dream, as they face Brazil in their last group match.
North Korea have been something of shock in South Africa this year. Despite losing to Brazil in their opener, the sort of attacking football they displayed hearkened back to their 1966 World Cup team that reached the quarterfinals. Their chances of taking a point in this match are not as dire as the odds would suggest, and 7/2 for a draw has the possibility of big money in what is likely to be a low-scoring affair.
Spain: 1/10
Draw: 8/1
Honduras: 18/1
Spain vs. Honduras: The first real upset of the World Cup involved a certain Spanish squad that is expected to win the entire tournament. After going a goal goal, some exceptional Swiss defence condemned the Euro champions to their first international loss since June 2009. Honduras present an entirely different opponent, an one they have only faced once before – a match which ended in a 1-1 draw. The smart odds are on Spain to win big, and, with so much riding on their need for a victory, it’s hard to argue.
Honduras rode their luck throughout the entire CONCACAF qualification period, only just scraping into the World Cup thanks to a superior goal difference to Costa Rica. A loss in their opening fixture against Chile has all but destroyed their hopes of a second round berth, but an upset against the European giants could very well reignite their tournament. While unlikely that they will get anything from this match, you only have to look back at results from the past couple of days to realise that anything can happen in this game.
Chile: 6/5
Draw: 21/10
Switzerland: 23/10
